Working Principle:
The working principle of gate valves is very easy. The valve operates using a simple mechanism where a gate or wedge is lifted from or lowered onto a seat to control the flow of fluid. When the valve handle or actuator is turned, it rotates the stem which moves the gate vertically. This action is facilitated by the threads on the stem that engage with matching threads in the valve body or bonnet, allowing precise control over the position of the gate.
In the open position, the gate is fully lifted away from the pathway of the fluid, providing a straight and unobstructed flow with minimal pressure drop. When closing the valve, turning the handle or actuator in the opposite direction lowers the gate back into place against the seat, effectively blocking the flow. This tight sealing when closed makes gate valves ideal for on/off operations rather than throttling, as they may not offer precise flow control when partially opened.
