Knife Gate Valve

Knife Gate Valve Manufacturer in India delivering slurry isolation valves for mining and wastewater applications.

Knife Gate Valve Manufacturer in India

A knife gate valve uses a thin linear gate to isolate slurries, fibrous media and fluids containing suspended solids. Unidirectional, bidirectional and through-conduit designs are available for different service conditions. Speciality Valve manufactures knife gate valves for compatible slurry and solids-handling applications. Selection should consider solids content, abrasion, pressure direction, differential pressure, cycling frequency and required shut-off performance.

Knife Gate Valve Types:

  • Bi-Directional Knife Gate Valve: Designed to provide shut-off against pressure from either direction, subject to the selected seat and pressure rating.

  • Slurry Knife Gate Valve: Designed for abrasive or solids-bearing media using gate, body and sealing arrangements selected for the slurry characteristics.

  • Through Conduit Knife Gate Valve: Provides a continuous bore when fully open, supporting smooth solids passage and reduced flow restriction.

  • Unidirectional Knife Gate Valve: Designed for shut-off against pressure from a specified direction, according to the valve's seat and sealing arrangement.

  • Flanged Knife Gate Valve: Uses flanged ends for secure pipeline installation and convenient maintenance.

Knife Gate Valve Material Options:

Material selection should consider abrasion, corrosion, pressure, temperature and media compatibility:

  • Carbon Steel and Ductile Iron: Suitable for selected general services.

  • CF8 and CF8M Stainless Steel: Selected for compatible process media where stainless-steel corrosion resistance is required.

  • Duplex and Super Duplex: Selected for compatible chloride-bearing or corrosive duties according to the required corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.

  • Nickel Alloys: Selected for specific corrosive process chemistry where the particular nickel-alloy grade is compatible.

  • Specialized Coatings: Used where additional resistance to erosion and wear is required.

Gate, seat and sealing materials should be selected according to particle size, solids concentration, abrasion, corrosion, differential pressure and operating temperature.

Operation Options:

Knife gate valves can be operated using handwheel, gearbox, pneumatic actuator, electric actuator or hydraulic actuator. Pneumatic actuation may be selected where suitable operating speed and plant air are available, while electric or hydraulic actuation can be selected according to valve size, required force, operating frequency and available utilities.

Actuator sizing should consider breakaway force, seating force, differential pressure, gate travel and resistance from the process medium.

Knife Gate Valve Testing:

Knife gate valves can undergo inspection and testing according to the applicable valve design and project specification. Quality control may include:

  • Dimensional inspection.

  • Material verification and traceability.

  • Body hydrostatic testing.

  • Seat leakage testing.

  • Functional stroke and operation testing.

  • Actuator testing where applicable.

Pressure and leakage testing may follow API 598, ISO 5208 or the applicable project/valve specification, depending on the Knife Gate Valve design and service. For unidirectional or bidirectional designs, seat-leakage testing should reflect the specified pressure direction(s) and required shut-off performance.

Knife Gate Valve Applications:

Knife gate valves are commonly used in:

  • Mining and mineral-processing slurry lines.

  • Slurry pipelines.

  • Wastewater and sludge handling.

  • Ash-handling systems.

  • Cement and bulk-solids handling.

  • Tailings pipelines.

  • Pulp or fibrous-media service, where compatible with the valve design.

  • Compatible chemical slurry systems.

  • Other abrasive or solids-bearing process duties where Knife Gate construction is appropriate.
