Plug Valve

Plug Valve Manufacturer in India offering reliable isolation valves for oil, gas, water and chemical services.

Plug Valve Manufacturer in India

Designed for fast isolation and flow switching, a plug valve uses a quarter-turn rotating plug to open, close or divert pipeline flow. Its simple construction supports reliable shut-off for liquid, gas, slurry and viscous media. Speciality Valve manufactures plug valves for industrial process and pipeline applications, with configurations selected for specific pressure, temperature and media conditions. The Plug Valve Manufacturer in India offers solutions focused on tight sealing, quick operation and dependable flow control.

How Does a Plug Valve Control Flow?

The plug valve consists of a plug that is bored into the body of the valve. When the port of the plug is aligned with the pipe, the flow of the medium takes place inside the valve. Rotation of the stem through 90 degrees moves the solid element across the path and cuts off the flow.

The short stroke operation results in fast shutoff, and the port arrangement provides for straight-through, three-way, or multi-directional flow. The operating torque is dependent on many factors.

Plug Valve Types for Isolation and Flow Diversion:

  • 3 Way Plug Valve: Directs one inlet stream between two outlets or combines flow paths.

  • Connection Lift Plug Valve: Lifts the plug before rotation to reduce sealing-surface friction.

  • Eccentric Plug Valve: Uses an offset plug that moves away from the seat during opening.

  • Jacketed Plug Valve: Circulates heating or cooling medium around the body to maintain temperature.

  • Lubricated Plug Valve: Injects sealant between the plug and body to support sealing and reduce friction.

  • Non Lubricated Plug Valve: Uses a sleeve or lining instead of injected lubricant.

  • Orbit Plug Valve: Combines lifting and rotary movement so the plug disengages before turning.

  • Twin Seal Plug Valve: Uses two independent seals with a bleed arrangement between them.

Plug Valve Selection for Process Conditions:

Selection should consider:

  • Medium composition, solids content, and viscosity

  • Operating pressure and temperature

  • Required flow path and port configuration

  • Allowable pressure drop

  • Shut-off and leakage requirement

  • Operating torque and actuator sizing

  • Fire-safe or fugitive-emission requirements

  • Body, plug, sleeve, seat, and seal materials

  • Maintenance access and cycling frequency

These inputs determine whether a lubricated, sleeved, eccentric, lift, jacketed, or twin-seal design is suitable.

Common Applications of Plug Valve:

  • Crude oil and natural gas collection and transport pipelines

  • Refining and petrochemical facilities

  • Chemical and fertilizer plants

  • Mineral processing facilities

  • Generation plant and fuel pipelines

  • Water treatment facilities

  • Marine, terminal, and offshore pipelines

Plug Valve Standards and Testing:

API 599 is an applicable requirement in relation to metal plug valves, API 598 for inspection and pressure test, ASME B16.34 for construction and project specific fire safe or emission requirements. Inspection can involve material inspection, dimensional inspection, shell tests, closure tests, operating torque inspection, functionality tests and documentation.

Plug Valve Applications and Selection Criteria:

Specialty Valve is the designer of plug valves used for isolation, diversion of flow, and multiple ports. The exact configuration of the plug valve will depend on factors such as the type of fluid being carried, pressure and temperature levels, port layout, seal type, activation means and the frequency of operation. Some of the designs include lubricated, non-lubricated, eccentric, jacketed, three-way, lift, orbit and twin seals.
