About Plug valve:
A plug valve is a type of valve that effectively controls the flow of fluids in a system by using plugs. These plugs have a central opening that maintains the fluid flow when the valve is in the open position, aligning the cavity with the flow direction. As the controlling lever is rotated, the plug within the valve assembly also turns, repositioning the cavity perpendicular to the flow, thus halting the flow entirely. They can be used for throttling applications, but they are not typically the most ideal choice for precise or fine throttling. When used for throttling, plug valves can experience issues such as erosion and wear due to the flow of fluid against the plug and seat.

Working Mechanism:
Plug valves are rotary valves that use a cylindrical or tapered plug with a through hole to control the flow of fluid. The plug is positioned within the valve body and can be rotated to open or close the passage. When the valve is open, the plug is aligned with the flow direction, allowing fluid to pass through the hole. When the valve is closed, the plug is rotated perpendicular to the flow, blocking the passage and preventing fluid from flowing.
These valves can have different configurations, including lubricated plug valves and non lubricated plug valves. Lubricated plug valves use a lubricant injected between the plug and the valve body to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation. Non-lubricated plug valves, on the other hand, rely on the material of the plug and the valve body to provide sealing without the need for additional lubrication.
The operation of the valve is typically achieved through a handwheel, lever, or actuator. Turning the handwheel or activating the actuator causes the plug to rotate within the valve body, opening or closing the passage as needed. These valves are commonly used in applications requiring quick operation, tight shut-off, and minimal maintenance, such as in chemical processing, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
