The thermostatic steam trap responds to the temperature of the surrounding steam. This steam trap uses liquid expansion traps, as well as bimetallic and balanced pressure thermostatic traps. A thermostatic trap reacts to temperature variations.
These traps possess the ability to discern between steam and cooler non-condensable gases. The temperature of saturated steam is significantly influenced by pressure. In order to prevent additional heat loss, the temperature of the condensate drops accordingly.
